Bashneft (Rosneft subsidiary) has begun the trial commercial operation of a pipeline made from composite materials instead of conventional steel. The first pipeline at the Munir Gallyamov field is 10 kilometres long. It has significantly increased the efficiency of oil transportation and improved environmental and industrial safety.
The composite pipeline is the first step in creating a large-scale production infrastructure using innovative developments in Bashkortostan’s new oil-bearing area. The pipeline at the Munir Gallyamov field was installed using the make-up of pipes method. Compared to conventional steel pipe welding, installation speed is increased by five times.
The composite pipeline is non-corrosive, it does not require electrochemical protection, anti-corrosion inhibitors or cleaning. This pipe has a warranted lifespan of up to 50 years, which is three times longer. The composite oil pipeline’s smooth inner surface significantly reduces hydraulic losses during oil pumping. It also eliminates deposits on the pipe walls, which reduce the throughput capacity of steel pipelines over time.
The transition to pipes made from innovative materials will significantly accelerate the construction of new oil pipelines and the exploration of reserves. The project was initiated by specialists from Bashneft-Dobycha, the operator of Bashneft for the development of hydrocarbon fields.
One of Rosneft’s key strategic priorities is to introduce innovations and maximise its technological potential. The Company aims to improve production efficiency by making use of advanced domestic developments and technical solutions.
For reference:
Bashneft is one of the oldest oil and gas enterprises in the country engaged in oil extraction and processing. Its main production facilities are located in the Republic of Bashkortostan.
Hydrocarbons exploration and production are also carried out in Khanty-Mansi and Nenets Autonomous Districts, the Orenburg Region and the Republic of Bashkortostan.
