Rosneft Sports Traditions
Rosneft actively supports both professional and amateur sports. Such components of sporting culture as constant striving for new achievements, determination, and will to victory are also typical for business philosophy of the Company. This is why Rosneft annually carries out sports infrastructure development program, financially supports professional sports teams, holds amateur competitions, rents gyms and swimming pools for its employees. Rosneft sports traditions are represented by organization of sports events for citizens of the regions, where the Company has its business presence, for employees of its subsidiaries, and by many other activities.

The Company funded construction of large sports facilities in the Far East, Siberia and the Russian South. As part of agreements and charitable activities Rosneft appropriated money for equipment of 82 sports facilities. On the occasion of Komsomolsk-on-Amur 80th anniversary a new stadium has been built; the ‘Vodnik’ stadium in Nakhodka has been renovated.

In 2011 Rosneft and Organizing Committee “Sochi 2014” implemented “Rosneft, Environment, Health!” project. Sports events as well as environmental and educational events took place in Nefteyugansk, Tuapse, Naryan-Mar, Krasnoyarsk, Samara, and Nakhodka. About 5,000 people took part in the race, and about 4,000 more people took part in such events on sports grounds as amateur kettlebell lifting competitions, darts, tug-of-war, and “Mom, Dad and Me – Sports Family” family competition.

In 2011 the Company bought professional hockey club CSKA to provide the legendary ice hockey club with stable financing and essential material base. Since 2012 Rosneft has also provided financial support to players of FC Tom Tomsk.

To preserve the best traditions of backyard hockey and generate more interest around one of the most popular sports in Russia, the Company has organized its own hockey championship among amateur teams. The first Rosneft championship was launched in 2012. 150 registered teams took to the ice under the watchful eye of professional coaches at open rinks and ice hockey stadiums in the qualifying round of the Big Game. Amateur players aged between 10 and 60 from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Samara, Penza, Togliatti, Irkutsk, Barnaul and Voronezh played in 100 teams that took part in the championship. As a prize, teams that made it into the final will see their “backyard” hockey rinks re-equipped. Six winning teams were awarded Big Game cups and won trips to the 2012 Ice Hockey World Championship. Rosneft organized a special contest for The Big Support fan movement. Fans who came up with the two most original hockey chants using the words ‘Rosneft’ and ‘Big Game’ also went to the Ice Hockey World Championship along with the winning teams. New hockey rinks were opened in the home cities of amateur hockey teams that made it to the semi finals of the Big Game. Rosneft supported the opening of a total of 12 hockey rinks in 7 cities across Russia in December 2012. Thanks to this project the Company has not only made a contribution to children’s sports, but continued legendary hockey traditions.

During the Olympic Games of 2012 in London Rosneft was the General Partner of Sochi.Park ice arena and a sponsor of Ilya Averbukh theatrical ice dance premiere “Sochi: Small Stories of a Big City”.

One of the most important Company’s sports traditions is Rosneft Spartakiad. 17 teams (630 athletes and oil workers) took part in the IX Rosneft Spartakiad finals at the Moscow ‘Yantar’ stadium in 2013. All the athletes work for Rosneft subsidiaries. They competed in 12 events. Number of Spartakiad participants is constantly growing: there were about 2000 athletes at the IX Spartakiad. In 2011, Rosneft as the General Partner of XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi decided to extend the format of corporate Spartakiad. Now alongside with the Summer Games the Company also holds winter sports competitions. 19 teams took part in the III Winter Spartakiad in 2013. Company employees competed in four events: hockey, ice-skating, ski race, and sleighing. New athletes and fans join the sports movement every year. Along with the Company they make striving for sports and new achievements their tradition.
