Orenburgneft Invests 4 Billion Roubles in Nature Conservation

23 April 2026

In 2025, Orenburgneft, Rosneft’s key production asset in the Volga region, allocated around 4 billion roubles to environmental projects, nature conservation and nature restoration activities.

The enterprise implements targeted environmental programmes, covering gas management and pipeline reliability, and carries out the recycling of industrial waste, as well as monitoring environmental parameters. The enterprise is also committed to preserving biodiversity in the areas where it operates. It employs resource-saving technologies and is dedicated to environmental responsibility.

A budget of 2 billion roubles has been allocated to initiatives aimed at improving the efficient use of associated petroleum gas. The funds have been allocated to the construction of the Rybkinskaya gas compressor station and gas pipelines for five fields in the east of the Orenburg region. Once commissioned, the new infrastructure will enable additional volumes of associated petroleum gas to be channelled to the Buzuluk gas processing enterprise. Here, the gas will be processed to marketable quality and supplied to end users. Overall, in 2025, Orenburgneft increased its utilisation of associated petroleum gas by 10.6% compared with 2024.

In addition, the implementation of cutting-edge equipment and innovative domestic energy-saving technologies has enabled Orenburgneft to achieve a significant reduction in energy consumption, amounting to 9,500 tonnes of fuel equivalent.

As part of the enterprise's environmental monitoring programme, specialists collected and analysed over 900 air, water and soil samples last year, 320 of which were taken at fixed monitoring stations.

As part of the programme to enhance pipeline reliability, a comprehensive assessment of pipeline condition has been conducted using cutting-edge equipment. This has enabled the scheduling of essential pipe section replacements, repairs and corrosion inhibition measures. In 2025, 94 km of pipelines were replaced and repaired. The enterprise's specialists have implemented an integrity monitoring system on the pressure oil pipeline. Flow and pressure sensors generate and transmit data in real time to the operators' control panel. The enterprise's long-term strategy is to install these systems in all its pressure oil pipelines.

Orenburgneft employs industrial waste disposal technologies that comply with environmental legislation. The by-products obtained are reused in industrial applications.

In 2025, as part of the enterprise's efforts to restore biodiversity, staff released over 20,000 carp fry into the Iriklinsky and Sorochinsky reservoirs. Since the launch of the aquatic biological resources restocking programme in 2018, over 487,000 fry of commercial fish species have been released into water bodies in the Volga and Ural river basins.

Orenburgneft supports the Orenburg State Nature Reserve and the Centre for the Reintroduction of the Przewalski's Horse, a species listed in the Red Book. This partnership aims to enhance the living conditions, diet and veterinary care for the reserve's animals, while also supporting research into endangered species.

The enterprise's volunteers help protect the environment. For several years now, the staff have been organising collections of used plastic, batteries and waste paper. Local students take part in environmental campaigns organised by oil companies. In 2025, more than 14 tonnes of secondary raw materials were sent for recycling through joint efforts.

Orenburgneft plays an active role in various environmental awareness-raising events and campaigns as part of regional and federal projects. The Clean Shores, Eco-Territory, Eco-School, Memory Garden and Green Spring initiatives are centred on the clean-up and greening of areas in the Orenburg Region.

In 2025, the enterprise was named a winner of the environmental marathon organised by the Orenburg Region's Department of Youth Policy for enterprises and organisations in the region. The implementation of large-scale environmental programmes in the Orenburg region has been recognised on numerous occasions at the regional Economic Leader awards. For over 10 years, Orenburgneft has been the winner in the Leader in Environmental Responsibility category.
