Rosneft and the Smolensk Region Government Signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to Boost Car Tourism

05 June 2026

Rosneft and the Smolensk Region Government have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation at the XXIX St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The document aims to promote the tourism potential of the Smolensk Region.

This memorandum takes the collaboration between Rosneft and the Smolensk Region Tourism Development Center, started in 2024, to a new level. A key outcome of the first phase of cooperation between the Company and the region was the development of three unique interregional car routes, each passing via the outstanding historical sites of the Smolensk Region.

Between Two Capitals: Moscow - Minsk route passes through the town of Gagarin, the birthplace of the first cosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin. In Vyazma one has an opportunity to enjoy the taste of the famous honey Vyazemsky gingerbread while Dorogobuzh features the largest globe in Europe - the height of a four-storey house.

Southern Bryansk - Smolensk route is of interest to classical music lovers who will be delighted to visit Mikhail Glinka's estate in the village of Novospasskoye. The next stop is the fairytale Teremok in Flenovo, followed by a visit to the Church of the Holy Spirit, decorated with mosaics by Nicholas Roerich.

Northern Pskov - Smolensk route passes through the Smolenskoye Poozerie National Park, the museum estate of Nikolai Przhevalsky, Europe's largest Viking Age burial mound complex in Gnezdovo, the house museum of the great actor Yuri Nikulin in Demidov, and also offers a relaxing break on the shores of Lake Sapsho called Baikal in Miniature.

The new memorandum is aimed at expanding cooperation between the Company and the region and enhancing customer comfort while using improved roadside service facilities at Rosneft gas stations. This cooperation contributes to the delivery of the objectives set out in the national Tourism and Hospitality Project.

All routes are integrated with the Rosneft gas station network, including over 70 stations in the region. At these stations, travellers can fuel their cars with high-quality fuel, relax in a café, or purchase essential items for the trip.

For reference:

Since 2023, the Company, together with its partners, has introduced over 50 routes running through 24 regions of the country. Some of the routes are available on the Rosneft in-house information and service platform called Russian Horizons that operates like a construction kit, enabling travellers to plan their own routes via the Company gas stations.

One of the Company priorities is to improve the quality of roadside assistance and customer service throughout the gas station network. This contributes to the promotion of domestic car tourism, as Rosneft retail network is not only the largest in Russia but also a leader in brand awareness and fuel quality. In total, the Company operates around 3,000 gas stations in 62 regions of Russia, in Abkhazia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and South Ossetia as well.
