Rosneft and Golar LNG Expand Cooperation in the Area of LNG

05 March 2015

Rosneft and Golar LNG Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding that foresees cooperation between the companies in the area of liquefaction and transportation of natural gas.

Within the ambit of the memorandum the parties will analyze the possibility of employing Golar’s advanced FLNG (Floating Liquefaction of Natural Gas) commercialization technologies at Rosneft projects, potentially opening new markets to Rosneft, one of the leading hydrocarbon producers in the world.

While a potential opportunity to further develop its FLNG business for Golar, implementation of the memorandum would also allow Rosneft to accelerate development of its gas fields and reduce upfront CAPEX for LNG plants by using the Golar FLNG fleet.

Note for editors:

The Company is the leader in gas production among Russian oil companies. Gas production was 56.7 bcm in 2014, over 49% more than in 2013. Rosneft plans to increase gas production to 100 bcm by 2020.

Golar LNG is one of the world’s largest independent owners and operators of LNG carriers with nearly 40 years of LNG experience. The company developed the world’s first Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) projects based on the conversion of existing LNG carriers. Golar LNG leads the industry with committed projects and is progressing plans to grow its business further upstream via Floating liquefaction (FLNG). Including its affiliate, Golar LNG Partners LP, Golar’s current fleet is comprised of 13 LNG carriers, 5 FSRUs, 1 FLNG vessel under conversion, 2 FLNG conversion candidates together with 3 further LNG carriers and 2 FSRUs under construction. The company’s strategic objective is to become an integrated midstream player in the LNG industry. For more information, please visit
