Rosneft Sponsors National Holiday Celebration in the Village of Kharampur

10 September 2026

Kharampurneftegaz (part of Rosneft’s oil production complex) sponsored a festival of national sports in the Forest Nenets settlement of Kharampur in Yamal, to mark the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia.   The participants competed in a range of traditional events, including jumping over sledges, the triple jump, mas-wrestling (tug-of-war) and throwing the tynzyan (lasso) onto the khorey (a pole used to control reindeer teams).

Festival visitors – oil workers and their families – joined local residents in organising an environmental clean-up, clearing household rubbish from the banks of the Kharampur River, before taking part in a friendly five-a-side football tournament. The winning team donated prizes and gifts to the children at the Harampur boarding school.

According to the festival organisers, the events help to strengthen neighbourly relations and mutual respect, and to support the traditional sports of indigenous peoples. These sports have for centuries formed the basis of physical training for reindeer herders, fishermen and hunters.

The Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District is home to a wide variety of Russian ethnic groups who work and live in challenging climatic conditions. Rosneft provides active support for a wide range of social initiatives. These include helping to develop reindeer herding communities, as well as educational, cultural and sporting projects and events.

Rosneft has contributed to the revitalisation of Kharampur. Thanks to the Company's support, the national settlement has become a centre of culture for the Forest Nenets. The oil workers built a clubhouse, a library and 20 hard-wall cottages in the village, stylised as a traditional tent dwelling. A boarding school was also constructed in the village, where the children of reindeer herders and fishermen receive an education, learning their native language and traditional crafts. Supported by RN-Purneftegaz, researchers at the National Research University Higher School of Economics have developed a range of educational materials for teaching the Forest Nenets language in primary schools.

In the national village under the Rosneft patronage, enterprises provide support for the main national festival of the indigenous peoples of the North – Reindeer Herder’s Day – as well as an ethnic music festival and educational activities for children at the boarding school. Since 2024, RN-Purneftegaz has funded research into nomadic education for pre-school children living in camps as part of a grant project.
