Rosneft Releases Over Million Sturgeon Fry into the Irtysh River

11 September 2026

Kondaneft (part of Rosneft's oil production complex) has released over 1.3 million Siberian sturgeon fry into the Irtysh River as part of its systematic efforts to preserve biodiversity in the region where it operates. This species is listed in the Russian Red Data Book and is a particularly valuable member of the region's fish fauna; the recovery of its population is of great importance for maintaining the region's ecological balance.

The release of the fish fry was carried out in the waters of one of the largest rivers in Western Siberia. The fish's successful adaptation and subsequent reproduction will, in the long term, contribute to an increase in its population in the wild and help to preserve Yugra's natural heritage.

This significant initiative represents a further development in the enterprise's efforts to implement its annual environmental programme, which aims to replenish fish stocks and maintain ecological balance. Last year, the programme's priority was the conservation of the peled, a species of particular importance to the traditional fisheries and way of life of the region's indigenous peoples.

A special commission was responsible for supervising the stocking programme. This commission comprised representatives of the relevant government bodies charged with the protection of aquatic biological resources, as well as independent industry experts. This ensured compliance with all environmental protection requirements during the release of fish fry.

Preserving the environment for future generations is an integral part of Rosneft’s corporate culture. The Company’s operations are aimed at improving the environmental sustainability of its production and reducing environmental impact. Rosneft is working consistently to conserve biodiversity and replenish Russia’s aquatic biological resources.
