Rosneft’s Share Listing Celebrates 20th Anniversary

20 July 2026

19 July 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of Rosneft shares being traded on the Moscow Exchange. The Company’s initial public offering (IPO), which took place in 2006, was the largest in Russia and the fifth largest in the history of the global stock market.

Rosneft is a prime example of a successful privatisation. Over the past 20 years, a series of transactions has seen foreign strategic investors join the Company’s shareholder base. Furthermore, major assets have been acquired, establishing Rosneft as a leading player in the global oil and gas industry. Taken together, these transactions have generated revenues of around $70 billion for the country.

Today, Rosneft is the Russian oil industry leader and one of the world’s largest vertically integrated oil and gas companies. The Company is involved in every stage of the production process, from exploration and production to refining and marketing petroleum products.

Rosneft is one of the systemic enterprises that form the backbone of the country’s economy. The Company’s total contribution to the budget includes direct payments, as well as revenue from related sectors. Over the last 20 years alone, Rosneft has contributed over $1 trillion in tax revenue to budgets at all levels. Rosneft is not only the largest taxpayer in the Russian Federation, but also a key supplier of foreign currency to the domestic market.

Since its IPO, Rosneft has been one of the Russian stock market leaders in terms of market capitalisation, with its securities being among the most reliable and liquid instruments. Popular with retail investors, the Company’s shares are regularly included in the Moscow Exchange’s ‘People’s Portfolio’.

Protecting the interests of shareholders remains one of Rosneft’s key strategic priorities. The Company was the first among Russian state-owned enterprises to switch to paying dividends based on net profit under IFRS. Dividends have been paid continuously for over 25 years, and the basis for their calculation has remained unchanged since 2011. Since the IPO, the company has paid out a total of 3.7 trillion roubles in dividends, while the number of shareholders has grown tenfold to 1.7 million.
