World Recycling Day is celebrated in Russia and other countries on 15 November. This day aims to raise awareness of the need to use resources more efficiently and the importance of recycling.
Rosneft is committed to minimising its environmental impact and making its operations more environmentally friendly. Improving the efficiency of waste management processes is one of the priority goals of the 2030 corporate strategy.
The Company’s subsidiaries are consistently implementing projects that contribute to the transition to a circular economy.
Since its launch, RN-Vankor has sent more than 2,000 tonnes of used oil for recycling, including over 187 tonnes in 2025 alone.
Saratov Refinery and Novokuibyshevsk Oil Company have donated over 3,500 tonnes of non-ferrous and ferrous metals for recycling. Such actions help to reduce environmental pollution and conserve natural resources.
As part of environmental campaigns such as BoomBattle, Ecomarathon and Save a Tree, as well as other events, Rosneft enterprises organise the separate collection of paper, plastic, scrap metal, glass and electronic waste. This waste is then delivered to special recycling or disposal points. The proceeds are donated to charities and volunteer environmental initiatives.
In 2025, the Company’s subsidiaries sent a record-breaking 1,000 tonnes of waste paper for recycling. This equates to saving 19,000 trees, two million litres of drinking water, and one million kilowatt hours of electricity.
For the second year running, Orenburgneft volunteers joined forces with schoolchildren and activists from the Movement of the Firsts to organise the Ecoschool campaign. Twenty children’s educational institutions from across the region took part in the campaign. Each school holds regular environmental lessons and special eco-boxes are placed around the school where pupils and teachers can collect paper. In 2025, the organisers used the proceeds from the paper donation to purchase fruit trees, which were planted in urban areas by the winners of the campaign — pupils from School No. 10 in Buzuluk.
Samotlorneftegaz is actively involved in the environmental education of young people. With the support of the enterprise, the EcoQuant teenage club opened in Nizhnevartovsk and is now successfully operating, teaching children to take care of the environment. The classes are conducted by enterprise volunteers, among others. Samotlor’s oil workers plant greenery in public areas of Nizhnevartovsk and take measures to plant coniferous trees in the Urals Federal District. This contributes to the sustainable development of ecosystems and the preservation of biological diversity.
The Company’s enterprises pay special attention to plastic recycling. As part of the environmental campaigns ‘Kind Caps’, ‘Caps, Give It Up!’ and ‘Caps of Kindness’, over three tonnes of plastic caps were recycled in the first 10 months of 2025.
Employees of Saratov Refinery collected 82 kg of plastic caps and purchased fry of herbivorous fish, including common carp, silver carp and grass carp. These fry will clean the Volgograd Reservoir of excessive vegetation, which is important for preserving its ecosystem.
Employees of RN-Severo-Zapad regularly collect plastic and help children with special developmental needs and homeless animals. They also plant trees in St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region.
Volunteers from ROSPAN INTERNATIONAL, Rosneft class students and representatives of the Movement of the Firsts learnt how to recycle plastic caps. The caps are sorted by colour and then shredded using a special bicycle, while the speed of pedalling determined how fine the plastic shavings would be. These shavings are then used to create new products, including key rings, tablet holders, card holders and Christmas decorations.
Achinsk Refinery sent almost a tonne of plastic to the Divnogorsk Polymer Products Plant for processing. This will be used to make furniture fittings and fasteners for children’s playgrounds and sports grounds. These are covered with tyres that have been crushed into crumbs — in 2025, the plant’s employees recycled nine tonnes of them.
Bashneft-Novoil handed over 210 kg of used batteries for recycling, winning the large-scale environmental campaign ‘Batteries for Recycling’, organised by the Ufa city administration. All of the recyclable materials were sent to a specialised plant in Chelyabinsk for processing.
As part of the Green Office project, oil workers from Samara and Bashkiria installed special containers for collecting waste in the offices of Samaraneftegaz, Samaranefteprodukt and Bashneft enterprises. Paper, plastic, glass and used batteries are collected separately. This allows materials suitable for reuse to be separated from those that must be recycled, like used batteries.
On the eve of Recycling Day, RN-Chernozemye volunteers took part in an EcoTaxi campaign. Over the course of the day, they transported and recycled 20 kg of plastic caps, 10 kg of used batteries, and almost 70 kg of waste paper.
The Company’s subsidiaries actively cooperate with eco-homes and multifunctional green co-working centres that have recycling points. Rosneft Classes regularly feature environmental lessons. Schoolchildren and Company employees attend exhibitions, lectures and environmental workshops.
