China Shapes New Global Energy Landscape Based On Traditional, Alternative Sources - Sechin

25 November 2025

China is shaping the new face of global energy, which represents a synthesis of traditional and alternative sources, said Igor Sechin, Executive Secretary of the Presidential Commission for Strategic Development of the Fuel and Energy Sector and Chief Executive Officer of Rosneft Oil Company.

"Today, China is a great energy power which is shaping a new image of all global energy. The country is advancing by leaps and bounds towards building a new type energy system which is a synthesis of conventional and alternative sources," Sechin said at the opening of the VII Russian-Chinese Energy Business Forum (RCEBF) in Beijing.

According to him, the West has taken the path of the well-known German philosopher Jacob Boehme, who advocated a magical way of achieving results: " As our saying goes: ‘at the pike’s behest’ or ‘with God's help’".

He noted that China's electricity generation is more than twice that of the US, whereas 20 years ago it was exactly the opposite. China accounts for one-third of global investment in the energy sector, Sechin emphasized. This year, it is expected to reach about $900 billion, which is 30% more than the investment of all of North America and more than 1.5 times that of Europe.

According to the head of Rosneft, rapid technological development and unprecedented electrification have made China the world's largest energy consumer. “Such needs for energy require a special approach to energy security,” Sechin concluded.
