Sibintek, Rosneft’s corporate IT integrator, organised IT competitions for students of the Yuri Gagarin State Technical University of Saratov.

One hundred students from the Institute of Applied Information Technologies and Communications and the Institute of Electronic Engineering and Instrumentation attended the IT hackathon*, which focused on development and information security.

Specialised competitions help popularise science in the oil and gas sector, attracting industry professionals and talented young people to solve non-standard production problems. It is a chance for students to make a name for themselves on a national level and to become a part of the Rosneft team.

Over the course of three days, the hackathon participants developed an algorithm for a smart assistant for the support service using artificial intelligence and big data analysis methods. They also selected approaches to solving information security problems related to the development of tools for detecting phishing attacks and ensuring data protection on removable media.

The IT competitions included business games and masterclasses on using artificial intelligence and creating an effective presentation.

A panel of expert judges heard pitches from 20 teams presenting their original ideas. Winners of the IT competitions received personalised diplomas, smart gadgets and board games.

Rosneft is at the forefront of IT developments and innovative changes in the Russian oil and gas industry. The Company relies on digitalisation in all areas of its operations, which is one of the key elements of the Rosneft-2030 strategy. The focus on introduction of digital technologies increases transparency, manageability and speed of decision-making throughout the Company’s production chain.

The Company actively cooperates with universities. This year marks the sixth consecutive year that Rosneft’s Ufa Research Institute has organised a large-scale series of IT competitions, including a hackathon for robot programmers, an academic tournament, and a geo-navigation league. Such intellectual competitions elevate the education system and modern digital technologies to new levels. This year’s IT Marathon brought together over 800 students and professionals from the oil and IT industries. The Company will conclude the competition with a grand finale in Moscow in December.

* A hackathon is a competition where specialists from different areas of software development work together to solve a problem over time.
