Rosneft Commissions New Power Plant at Vankor Field

23 December 2024

RN-Vankor (part of Rosneft’s oil and gas production complex) commissioned a new 150 MW Polyarnaya gas turbine power plant (GTPP) at the Vankor field.

As part of the implementation of the Vostok Oil project, the complex will meet the new facilities’ needs at the Vankor field cluster.

The power plant is fuelled by associated petroleum gas (APG) from the Vankor field, where the utilisation rate is now close to 100%. Meanwhile, around 13% of the gas is used in energy installations. The Polyarnaya GTPP will use over 270 million cubic metres of pre-treated APG as fuel for power generation each year.

A new engineering solution was used for the first time in the industry during the construction of the new power plant: vibration isolators were installed between the foundation and the gas turbine units to reduce the vibration load. This has significantly extended the plant’s maintenance-free lifespan.

GTPP control systems are manufactured domestically. The successful experience of replacing imported equipment and technologies with domestic alternatives will be applied to the design and construction of other energy infrastructure facilities for the Vostok Oil project.

The Company implemented the Polyarnaya GTPP construction project, including the development of import substitution solutions for key equipment components, in close cooperation with Inter RAO Group companies and branches of the System Operator of the Unified Energy System. These companies provided a range of services to commission the Polyarnaya GTPP as part of the country’s energy system.

For reference

RN-Vankor, a subsidiary of Rosneft Oil Company, is the operator of the Vostok Oil project. It includes the Vankor field cluster (Vankor, Suzun, Tagul and Lodochnoye fields) and the Payakh field cluster in the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

Full utilisation of APG, which is also used to generate electricity at the GTPP, will ensure that the Vostok Oil’s carbon footprint is 75% lower than that of other major new oil projects in the world.
