Specialists at RN-Purneftegaz, one of Rosneft's main oil and gas production centres in Yamal, have implemented a contactless magnetometer method for diagnosing field pipelines. The new domestic technology enables detection of magnetic field variations from distances of up to 10 metres, helping identify various pipeline defects.
Remote diagnostics allows examination of up to 20 kilometres of pipelines daily without shutting them down or altering their operating mode. The magnetometric system visualises data and provides GPS coordinate referencing. The speed of the defectoscopy specialist moving along the pipeline does not affect data quality. Following data processing and interpretation, the hardware system independently compiles assessments of pipeline technical condition with electronic maps of detected anomalies.
Previously employed technical diagnostic methods — pipeline section excavation and in-line inspection — required considerably greater time expenditure.
The contactless magnetometric method has been successfully trialled at the Komsomolskoye field. The new technology enables effective examination of pipelines where in-line diagnostics cannot be conducted. As part of the production efficiency enhancement programme, the contactless magnetometer method for field pipeline diagnostics will be proposed this year for rollout across Rosneft's production facilities.
Accident-free operation of industrial facilities represents one of the priorities of the Rosneft-2030 strategy and a key Company objective across all spheres of activity.
