Rosneft Volunteers Organise Children’s Trip to a CSKA Hockey Match

02 December 2024

As part of the Company’s Platform of Good Deeds programme, Rosneft volunteers organised a trip for children to attend a Continental Hockey League match between CSKA and Barys on 1 December.

The game, which took place on National Hockey Day, was attended by 100 children, including 80 from the Transformation Family Centre near Moscow and 20 from the national Movement of Firsts, along with their carers. Additionally, the day before National Hockey Day, Rosneft invited 150 children from the Movement of Firsts to watch a Supreme Hockey League match between Zvezda and Himik HC.

Rosneft is making a significant contribution to popularising ice hockey among children and young people and promoting the development of this sport in the country. Rosneft has owned the CSKA hockey club since 2011. Since then, the team has regained its status as the strongest in the Russian league, winning the Gagarin Cup three times and continuing the army’s glorious traditions.

Rosneft subsidiaries are working to develop Russian ice hockey in the regions where Rosneft operates. They are involved in building modern sports complexes and organising major sporting events. Corporate sports culture is also developing dynamically.

For instance, as part of the cooperation agreement between Rosneft and the Republic of Bashkortostan, Bashneft constructed ice rinks in the towns of Kumertau and Oktyabrsky, the second phase of the Universal Sports Ice Complex in Tuimazy, and an ice rink in Chekmagush. These modern hockey rinks are used all year round by adults and children alike, and host local, regional, and inter-regional competitions.

In Yugra, the Company has invested significant funds in the development of sports infrastructure in recent years as part of its partnership with the district government.

Samotlorneftegaz financed the construction of the first indoor hockey arena with artificial ice in Izluchinsk settlement in the Nizhnevartovsk district. The ice rink is equipped with unique ice mats technology. These mats allow the arena to be cooled quickly while maintaining the required temperature and optimising energy use.

RN-Nyaganneftegaz helped to modernise the Nyagan ice arena. As part of the project, the building was insulated and specialised process chillers and compressors were installed. Following the reconstruction, the sports centre now offers comfortable facilities for people of all ages to enjoy their favourite sports.

RN-Purneftegaz is helping to build the Ice Palace in Gubkinsky, Yamal.

The Rosneft Arena Ice Sports Palace, built with funding from the Syzran refinery, is in operation in Syzran. The opening of such a facility gave an impetus to the development of winter sports in the city, particularly ice hockey and figure skating. The arena has a capacity of over 780 spectators. It also provides space for groups with limited mobility.

A similar Ice Palace was opened in Novokuibyshevsk. The Novokuibyshevsk refinery supported the project. The arena’s technical features make it possible to train on the ice all year round. More than 700 people train at the rink every day. Mass skating is also very popular. The refinery also supports the local children’s hockey team. Sports uniforms were purchased for young hockey players.

Rosneft carries out extensive work to promote healthy lifestyles among its employees and the local populations in the regions of operation. Most of the Company’s subsidiaries have set up employee hockey teams.

Bashneft has eight hockey teams that play in internal and external competitions. The Ufaorgsintez team, which is based at Bashneft’s petrochemical plant, is Rosneft’s best hockey team.

The Syzran Refinery has three successful hockey teams that compete at various levels. The Neftyanik hockey club has won the Tolyatti amateur hockey league championship twice.

The Kuibyshev Refinery team has a history spanning almost 25 years and has taken top positions in the Samara Region championships on more than one occasion.

The Saratov Refinery has had a hockey team called Cracking for more than 10 years. The team’s sporting history includes participation in the Saratov Open Hockey Championship, the Summer Hockey Cup, the Saratov NPHL Open Championship and the Saratov Club of Hockey Lovers (SCHL) Night Hockey League. In 2024, the players took part in the 13th Russian Amateur Hockey Festival in Sochi. They are currently competing in the Extra Division of the SCHL tournament to hone their skills in preparation for the Puck of Rosneft tournament in Ryazan.

Angarsk Petrochemical Company’s hockey team is one of the favourites for the Rosneft Winter Sports Games. The enterprise regularly organises corporate hockey tournaments, pitting teams from its own divisions against each other and against representatives of other Rosneft subsidiaries operating in the Irkutsk region.

Hockey is one of the most popular sports among RN-Vankor employees. The annual Vankor Winter Cup tournament features competitions between teams from across the enterprise, with over 50 employees taking part.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the enterprise’s foundation and the 15th anniversary of the start of commercial production at the Vankor field, a large-scale sports festival was held for the first time this year. The festival included a hockey tournament with Dmitry Bykov, a legendary former player for the CSKA club, the NHL and the Russian national team. Bykov is also a silver medallist from the 2002 World Championship and currently coaches the CSKA Red Army youth hockey team. Six teams competed for the title of best team on the ice. Dmitry Vyacheslavovich also held an autograph session, during which people could have their picture taken with the famous sportsman and receive a commemorative handwritten signature from the renowned defenceman. He then held a masterclass for children aged 5–14, some of whom attend the prestigious Sokol hockey school. All the children received presents.

On the eve of National Hockey Day, Samotlorneftegaz invited activists from the Movement of the Firsts to a sports festival. The programme included a friendly ice hockey tournament between teams from the Company’s subsidiaries (RN-Yuganskneftegaz, RN-Purneftegaz and Samotlorneftegaz) and a sports masterclass for children led by professional ice hockey player and coach Yevgeny Vlasov and the enterprise’s sports volunteers. The children were taught the basics of skating as well as stick handling and puck shooting.

Popularising sport through personal example is a good tradition among oil workers and RN-Nyaganneftegaz. Employees organised the first ever Backyard Hockey Festival for the people of Nyagan. This event, known as the First Puck, took place in the city’s central residential area and attracted more than 150 participants. Students from the Movement of the Firsts took part in the sports event.
