The first qualifying stage of the 20th Rosneft Summer Sports Games was held in Tuapse. The sports festival was attended by athletes from eight teams from Kuban, Tyumen, Bashkortostan and Yamal.
Sports development is one of the main aspects of Rosneft’s social policy. Rosneft holds annual summer and winter sports games, which are the most popular events in the oil industry, with thousands of athletes participating.
The Summer Games traditionally consist of a qualifying stage and a final. The selection stages will take place in nine cities across the country in May and June this year. Around 80 teams from various Rosneft subsidiaries are set to participate in the competition. The programme for the anniversary games consists of 13 disciplines: mini-football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, running, shot put, kettlebell lifting, chess, shooting, powerlifting, tug-of-war, and billiards. A new discipline has also been added: freestyle swimming.
A total of 106 awards were presented during the first qualifying stage in Tuapse, across individual and team competitions.
In many sports disciplines, athletes demonstrated willpower, team spirit and high performance levels in an equal and persistent struggle. For example, an employee of the Tuapse Oil Refinery performed 233 kettlebell lifts, while a worker at RN-Purnegaz pushed a cannonball 12.33 metres.
Following three days of intense competition, Purneftegaz and Tuapse Refinery were awarded tickets to the final stage of the 20th Rosneft Summer Sports Games.
The qualifying rounds of the Rosneft Summer Games will also be held in Ryazan, Tyumen, Angarsk, Krasnodar, Samara, Khanty-Mansiysk, Ufa and Krasnoyarsk. The final competition will take place in Sochi in autumn.
