Rosneft supported the celebration of Biologist’s Day at Lomonosov Moscow State University. Around 6,000 people attended the event, including students and alumni of the institution, scientists, schoolchildren, and applicants interested in current issues in biology.

Moscow State University has been a key Rosneft partner university since 2006. The main areas of cooperation include the training and retraining of personnel, as well as research activities.  The Company is involved in implementing innovative educational projects at the University Gymnasium, where lectures are delivered to Rosneft Class students.

As part of Biologist Day, guests were presented with the latest research and developments in biology, including neurobiology and palaeontology. Specialists from Rosneft’s Arctic Research Centre informed visitors about the Company’s research projects in the northern seas. This includes a large-scale joint environmental project with Innopraktika and MSU in the White Sea. As part of the expeditions, the scientists repeated the route taken by the famous Soviet hydrobiologist Konstantin Deryugin more than 100 years ago. The experts plan to collect data on the current state of the White Sea biota and assess changes in the region’s ecosystems over the past 100 years.

In addition, everyone could take part in intellectual games and quests, and try their hand at being a real scientist at biology masterclasses. The guests were treated to a musical concert on the street stage.

Rosneft is committed to environment-oriented campaigns and biodiversity preservation activities. Environment protection is an integral part of the Company’s corporate culture and social responsibility. Rosneft and its subsidiaries implement numerous grant programmes to support scientific and applied projects that study and protect rare species of animals and plants.

Rosneft launched a new biodiversity conservation programme called Tamura last year. It aims to update information on the status of the region’s key animal species, including the bioindicators. By 2027, research is planned for reindeer, polar bear, valuable bird species, and fish in the Taymyr Peninsula at the mouth of the Yenisey River. There will be ten expeditions in total over four years. This year, Rosneft has conducted two scientific expeditions to study the populations of polar bears and other marine mammals in the Kara Sea. The main goal of the research in the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Yamal Peninsula is to conduct a full-scale count of polar bears and assess their distribution, using instrumental methods such as photo and infrared aerial surveys, as well as aerial visual methods.
