Rosneft Enterprises Release Nearly 22 Million Fish Fry into Russian Water Bodies in 2024

03 April 2025

Rosneft has been working consistently for over 10 years to replenish the country’s aquatic bio-resources. In 2024, the Company’s 28 subsidiaries released more than 21.7 million fish fry into Russian waters.

Responsible attitude towards the environment is an integral part of Rosneft Oil Company’s corporate culture and one of the key principles of its business. Rosneft is committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and is implementing a comprehensive water conservation programme that includes introduction of advanced technological solutions.

In 2024, the Syzran Refinery released about one million fry of valuable and commercial species into the Volga River, including 40 thousand sterlet fry and 72.5 thousand carp fry. Over the past five years, Orenburgneft has sent more than 425,000 fry to the Ural and Volga basins. In three years, RN-Vankor has released more than 2 million red-listed fish species into the Yenisei River. The Saratov Refinery participates in the environmental «Stop Algae!» campaign. Plastic lids collected during the campaign are exchanged for fry of herbivorous fish that clear the Volga of excessive vegetation.

In addition, thanks to Samotlorneftegaz’s environmental activities, more than 2 million fry of valuable fish species were released into Yugra’s rivers last year. As part of initiatives to preserve ecosystems and maintain biodiversity in the regions where the Company operates, Bashneft employees released more than 160,000 sterlet, muksun and salmon fry into waters in Bashkortostan, the Khanty-Mansiysk and Nenets Autonomous Districts.

In addition, to support scientific research of applied importance to the Taymyr Dolgano-Nenets district of Krasnoyarsk Territory and its indigenous population, the oil companies supported projects to assess the status of the main commercial fish populations in Taymyr’s waters and to study fish in the Yenisei Bay of the Kara Sea.

Employees of the Company’s subsidiaries actively participate in environmental campaigns and contribute to the development of a culture of rational and responsible consumption of natural resources. Volunteers from the enterprises regularly clean and improve the shorelines of large bodies of water, set up litter bins, and set up information stands for tourists about the value of lake ecosystems and springs.
