Rosneft, MGIMO and Tsinghua University Agree on Educational Cooperation

Rosneft, the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) and Tsinghua University, one of China’s  leading higher education institutions, have signed a cooperation agreement on personnel training during the 4th Russian-Chinese Energy Business Forum.

The agreement provides the Company’s employees with training opportunities in joint educational programmes in such areas as international business in the oil and gas industry; alternative energy, renewable energy sources; management of major oil and gas projects; digitisation, artificial intelligence and new technologies in the oil and gas industry, etc.

The arrangements include joint fellowships, roundtables, meetings and conferences. A joint working group will be set up to implement the Agreement on a parity basis.

Personnel training and development are strategically important tasks of the Rosneft 2030 Strategy. The Company provides its employees with opportunities to continuously improve their professional and personal skills and competencies.

Rosneft’s unified corporate training system covers all categories of employees and areas of the Company’s operations. The training engages lecturers from leading national and overseas universities, as well as educational and consultancy companies. The training programmes are tailored to the Company’s current and strategic objectives.


Tsinghua University is one of China’s leading universities, founded in 1911. It is part of China’s C9 League of nine elite universities. Tsinghua University is ranked number one in the top tertiary institutions in China and is regularly ranked among the world’s top 100 universities.

Leading academics, artists and politicians, including China’s President Xi Jinping and his predecessor Hu Jintao are among the graduates of Tsinghua University.

MGIMO is one of Russia’s leading institutions of higher education. MGIMO is the first university in Russia, Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the BRICS countries to receive 5 stars in the international QS Stars ranking. MGIMO ranks among the top three Russian universities in terms of the quality of education in the RAEX-100 ranking. The university is a strategic partner of Rosneft.

Rosneft’s cooperation with MGIMO has been developing since 2005. The main areas of cooperation are: training, retraining and advanced training of personnel; development of Rosneft’s base chair at the International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy at MGIMO; scientific research; expertise and analysis; development of educational infrastructure and support for students and teachers.
