Economic Effect of Rosneft’s Energy Saving Programme Exceeds 5.6 Billion Roubles in 2021

23 November 2022

As part of the energy saving programme, Rosneft Oil Company saved 372,000 tonnes of fuel equivalent worth over 5.6 billion roubles, in 2021. The volume corresponds to the production of 460,000 tonnes of oil and is comparable to the annual electricity consumption of a 300,000-strong city.

Energy and fuel resources utilisation, as well as introduction of energy-saving technologies are some of the key elements of Rosneft’s‑ 2030 Strategy. In 2021, the Company’s total energy consumption stood at some 569 million GJ. Rosneft’s subsidiaries take consistent measures to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption, as well as to optimise electrical loads and heat processes.

Overall in 2021, Rosneft’s enterprises performed more than 55,000 energy-saving measures. Specifically, operating modes of process facilities were optimised, modern equipment was introduced, and energy-efficient technologies in oil production and refining were utilised.

Rosneft has summarised the year 2021 in the results of its Energy Management, Efficiency and Saving System rating. The ranking aims to motivate the Company’s subsidiaries to improve energy efficiency and conservation.

The winners of the energy efficiency ranking are:

Production enterprises:

1st place RN-Vankor;
2nd place Samaraneftegaz;
3rd place RN-Purneftegaz.

Refining enterprises:

1st place - Novokuibyshevsk Refinery;
2nd place - Novokuibyshevsk Petrochemical Company;
3rd place - Novokuibyshevsk Oils and Additives Plant.

The evaluation criteria considered the performance of the energy management processes, including the degree of involvement of the enterprise’s relevant services in improving energy efficiency; and the completeness and quality of the implementation of the energy saving programme measures.

The evaluation was conducted by Rosneft-Termneft’s specialised corporate energy conservation centre and was formed based on the results of a review of the Energy Management and Energy Efficiency Improvement System indicators for the operation of technological processes and energy-intensive equipment.
