SevKomNeftegaz Produces First Million Tonnes of Oil and Condensate

13 January 2021

Specialists of SevKomNeftegaz, a joint venture between Rosneft Oil Company and Equinor ASA, have produced their first million tonnes of oil in the course of the full-scale development of the North-Komsomolskoye field. Since the company was established in 2017, it has managed to quadruple its production by bringing the PK1* oil reservoir into operation.

The field development utilises smart well completion systems equipped with an autonomous oil flow control device. This minimises potential geological risks. Advanced technology also allows drilling wells with up to 2 kilometres of vertical spacing. In 2020, SevKomNeftegaz set the record for the longest horizontal section (2,404 metres) among single-bore horizontal wells drilled by Rosneft onshore.

In 2020, as part of the first phase of the North-Komsomolskoye field development, the engineering preparation of nine large site infrastructure facilities with a volume of over 1.3 million cubic metres of sand was completed, procurement was carried out, and contractors were selected for construction and installation work. The procurement of materials and equipment increased more than tenfold compared to 2019, amounting to almost 80,000 tonnes.

*PK1 is the upper part of the Cenomanian sediments, the so-called Pokur Formation. Sandy sediments are at depths of 1,100-1,150 metres.

Note for Editors:

SevKomNeftegaz LLC was established in 2017 by Rosneft Oil Company and Equinor ASA in order to jointly develop the North-Komsomolskoye field. The licence area is located in the Nadym and Purovsky districts of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area. As of the early 2020, the remaining recoverable reserves (categories AB1-B2) are as follows: oil 199 million tonnes, condensate 5 million tonnes, gas 173 billion cubic metres. Upon the results of the successful pilot works, the venture participants decided to launch the first phase of the full-scale development of the North-Komsomolskoye field in 2019.
