Corporate Culture

Corporate culture is an important aspect of Rosneft's activity, an integral component of the Company's successful development strategy. It is based on the key objectives and values the Company adheres to when interacting with employees, partners and customers.

Rosneft’s key initiatives pertaining to corporate culture include, among others, the following areas:

  • Business ethics
  • Internal communication and sociological research
  • Corporate events

Business ethics

The main asset determining the success of any company is its employees. We all depend on the reputation, credibility, successful and sustainable development of the Company. The Company pays great attention to providing a favorable psychological climate and to creating conditions for realizing the potential of each employee. In 2015, the Company introduced a new version of the Code of Business and Corporate Ethics (hereinafter - the Code of Ethics) compiled in compliance with the best international practices.

The Code of Ethics is one of the most important tools of corporate culture. Corporate values and targets listed in the Code oblige each employee to be consciously active and proactive. Employees' adherence to the common principles and standards of conduct contributes to the creation of reliable and highly professional teams, united by common goals, culture, behavior and traditions, and helps maintain proper understanding, both within the Company and with business partners and clients.

Rosneft’s Council for Business Ethics is an advisory body, supporting the Company's structural subdivisions in the application and compliance with the Code provisions; it takes decisions and offers recommendations for the Company employees and officials on issues pertaining to business ethics and compliance; monitors compliance with the requirements of the Code of Ethics.

Work in the Company requires strict compliance with the legislative, ethical and professional regulations and standards by all employees, as established by the state, market and society, and forming the basis of the term "compliance". The Company adheres to the principle of non-acceptance of corruption in all and any forms and manifestations, in both operations and investment, as well as in any other types of activities. The Company considers any manifestations of corporate fraud unacceptable, regardless of the amount of damage caused.

The Company runs a Security Hotline, trains employees in compliance. As per the compliance principles, an information campaign is conducted to prevent corruption and to ensure zero tolerance to fraud among the Company management and employees. The information on the actions taken to counteract corporate fraud and prevent corruption is published in the Company's internal newsletters.

Internal communication is an integral part of the Company’s corporate culture an essential factors for increasing the business efficiency. Today, Rosneft focuses on the timely notification of the personnel of all the changes, projects and events occurring in the Company, supporting cooperation and knowledge sharing between the subsidiaries.

In order to properly determine the further development direction for the corporate culture and the system of internal communication, Rosneft regularly conducts sociological research. Research allows to assess the level of staff’s awareness and satisfaction with personnel and social programs, identify areas of potential and existing risks, and to offer recommendations for the development of the Company's personnel and social policies.

Corporate Events. Every year, the Company conducts three large multi-stage corporate events. They are a contest of professional skills "Best in profession", Sports Cup (Summer and Winter), and the performing art festival "Rosneft Lights the Stars".

The contest of professional skill "Best in profession" is a part of the motivation system. It helps identify and encourage proactive and promising employees, contributes to the development of professional skills of the Company's employees, and promotes the distribution of best practices, the introduction of new technologies, enhancing the prestige of blue-collar jobs, the production culture and responsibility for trouble-free operation.

In 2016, the Contest was held for the 12th time, 700 people from 89 Group Companies participated. Competitions were held at the Company's operations facilities located in the Krasnodar Territory.

The assessment takes into account both the theoretical and practical skills of the contestants. Traditionally, special attention is paid to the knowledge of industrial, fire, labor and environmental safety. In 2016, the participants competed for 24 days in 24 nominations in the areas of oil and gas production, processing and petroleum products supply. Winners and runner-ups were awarded certificates and money prizes.

For many years, Rosneft has been carrying out extensive work to develop sport and promote healthy lifestyle, both in the operating regions and among the Company employees. Winter and Summer Sports Cups are held annually.

In 2016, the total of about 3 thousand employees from 92 Group Companies took part in the Cups.

The VI Winter Cup was organized in Krasnoyarsk, in sports centers Arena North and Rassvet, as well as on the ski tracks of the Biathlon Academy. 437 athletes from 23 teams of the Group Companies competed for the medals. The competitions were held in four sports: hockey, speed skating, ski races and sleigh relay race. The winners of the team event were the athletes of the united Angara team, the Achinsky Refinery team was the silver medalist, and the Udmurtneft team won the bronze medal.

Within the 2016 Summer Cup, over 700 athletes from 18 Group Companies representing eight territories, from Khabarovsk to Ryazan, took part in the final stage in Sochi. In total, 2,500 people took part in the competitions, including the regional stages. Competitions were held in 14 sports disciplines: basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, table tennis, power lifting, track and field athletic races and relay races, tug-of-war, chess, billiards, bowling. The winner of the Cup was the Novokuibyshevsk Oil Refinery team, the second place was taken by the sportsmen of the united Angara team, the third place was awarded to the Samaraneftegaz team.

Festival "Rosneft Lights the Stars". In 2016, VI Corporate Festival "Rosneft Lights the Stars" was held, in which over 1,500 Company employees and their families took part. Traditionally, at the festival, the contestants perform in various nominations for the audience and the jury: vocal and choreographic art, vocal-instrumental and variety-circus genres, artistic skills. In 2016, the casting rounds were held in 88 Group Companies, and the regional stages were held in Krasnoyarsk, Samara, Tuapse, and Moscow.

The final competition performances were judged by a professional jury, which included well-known Russian artists. All performances combined innovative stage ideas and high level of performance. From year to year, the participants of the competition significantly add to the skill, and the Festival becomes an increasingly important cultural event, uniting generations of oilmen, different cities and regions of Russia.
