Kuibyshev Refinery
The Kuibyshev refinery located in the Samara region of Russia is part of the Samara group of refineries acquired by Rosneft in May 2007.The construction of the refinery began in 1943, and the first crude was processed there two years later. Since its establishment, Kuibyshev Refinery has undergone several expansions and upgrades. Thus, in 1970, the refinery began production of high-octane gasoline intended for passenger cars manufactured by Volga Motor Works. In the framework of a large-scale modernization program carried out in 1997, the plant commissioned a new primary distillation unit, fully shifted to production of unleaded gasoline, and substantially increased the share of high-octane gasoline in its total output.
The plant’s crude distillation capacity equals 6.5 mln tonnes (47.5 mln barrels) per year. A substantial part of crude feedstock is sourced from Rosneft’s upstream units in Western Siberia and Samara region (Yuganskneftegaz and Samaraneftegaz). The refinery specializes in the production of high-quality gasoline and other fuels. Its deep conversion facilities include catalytic cracking, visbreaking, catalytic reforming, and hydrotreatment units. Prior to its acquisition by Rosneft, Kuibyshev Refinery processed substantial volumes of the Company’s crude oil under tolling arrangements.
The Kuibyshev Refinery processed 6.67 mln tonnes(48,8 mln barrels) of crude oil in 2010, equaling the level in 2009. The Refinery produced 6.21 mln tonnes of saleable petroleum products and refining depth was 56.8%.
Construction work on the new fluid catalytic cracker continued in 2010. Principal equipment for the facility was delivered: the reactor, regenerator, and main fractionation column. Capacity expansion of the visbreaker was completed at the end of the year. Work continued on a block for separation of benzol fractions, and design work for an isomerization unit was begun.
